Vasile Rață

visual artist

Vasile Rață (b. 1966) is a well-known Romanian conceptualist artist. He studied in Chișinău, Moscow, Bucharest and Milan. His art reflects the emotions and personal experiences generated by the political and social events he witnesses. His art expresses his own searches and answers to current affairs.

He works with “poor” materials that he transfigures casually: wheels, boxes and bottles, household objects (including funnels, from which he formed a real collection), tools and construction materials. This creative ability reminds us of the artistic movement – Arte Povera, spread in Italy in the mid-1960s, which questioned and recalibrated the idea of beauty. Not to be neglected are his oil paintings or the drawings that remind of an inventor notebook of weird machinaries.
